Cardiff City have quickly recovered from the disappointment of losing out on Etienne Capoue, signing Sevilla midfielder Gary Medel on a four-year deal. The 26-year-old becomes the Bluebirds' record signing, eclipsing the £8 million that the newly-promoted side spent on Steven Caulker earlier this summer, and should serve as a steadying influence as the club looks to secure its place in the Premier League.
Gary Medel heads to Cardiff City

Manager Malky MacKay told the official Cardiff website that Medel is a ‘tenacious’ player, which is something of an understatement considering his short temper and fearsome style of play, but at least he’s not the sort who’ll be intimidated by a switch to England -- and there’s no doubting his quality either following two and a half strong seasons in La Liga.
It remains to be seen whether or not Medel will be ready to kick off the club’s inaugural Premier League campaign -- he’s on international duty with Chile and probably won’t be training with his new teammates until late next week -- but over the long run, he should make Cardiff a far better side. Will that be enough to stave off relegation?
