This weekend will see Manchester United play a league game without Sir Alex Ferguson as manager for the first time since 1986. The David Moyes era begins in earnest with a trip to Swansea, as the champions get their title defence underway against a tricky opponent.
Swansea City vs. Manchester United: Preview and TV schedule
Reigning Premier League champions Manchester United start their title defence away at Swansea City.
Michael Laudrup has strengthened his team with the club-record signing of Wilfried Bony this summer, with the former Vitesse striker netting twice on his debut against Malmö FF in the Europa League. He's expected to spearhead a dangerous attack, while £5 million arrival Jonjo Shelvey could also start. The Swans' only definite absentee is Jonathan De Guzman, with the Dutch midfielder suffering concussion after clashing in training on international duty.
For United, defender Rafael is suffering with a hamstring injury sustained in the Community Shield win over Wigan. He’s out even if he recovers, as he’s suspended for the opening game of the season. Winger Nani picked up a groin injury in a pre-season friendly against AIK Solna and is doubtful, though new arrival Wilfried Zaha -- who has been one of the stars of a patchy pre-season -- should make his Premier League debut.
