Bundesliga 2013-2014 Season Preview: Bayern look set to repeat as champions

It’s a new season in Germany, but it might play out just like last year.

Alexander Hassenstein

The German Bundesliga kicks off this weekend, and it’s time to get excited. The season starts Friday evening when the champions Bayern Munich host Borussia Mönchengladbach at the Allianz Arena. It’s a fantastic match to begin the Bundesliga season and should be quite entertaining. Gladbach have been Bayern’s “bogey team” in recent seasons.

Last season was a transcendent one for the Bundesliga, with the league jumping back to the forefront of European soccer with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund running rampant over last season’s Champions League on their way to the Final in Wembley. The full power of German fußball was on display and has surely drawn in more fans from around the world.

My predictions for the coming season

Champions: Bayern Munich

Champions League: Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke

Europa League: Borussia Mönchengladbach, Hannover, Eintracht Frankfurt

Relegation: Eintracht Braunschweig, Werder Bremen, Augsburg

Player of the Season: Franck Ribery

Golden Boot: Stefan Kießling

Coach of the Season: Armin Veh
