Costa Rica narrowly missed out on a 2010 World Cup berth, but they’re heading back to the finals in 2014. They only managed a 1-1 draw against Jamaica on Tuesday, but thanks to Mexico’s loss and Panama’s draw, the Ticos are seven points clear of fourth place with two games remaining in qualifying.
Costa Rica secures their place in next summer’s World Cup
The Ticos have returned to the big stage.

After the first two games of the CONCACAF hexagonal -- a draw against Panama and a loss against the United States -- Costa Rica looked on track for a rough qualifying campaign. All that changed though with a 3-0 over Jamaica in late March that began a five-match unbeaten streak that rocketed the Ticos to the top spot in the qualification table.
This will be Costa Rica’s first appearance in the World Cup finals since 2006 in Germany where they went winless in three group stage matches.
