Sebastian Kehl to miss the next six weeks with ankle injury

Borussia Dortmund’s Sebastian Kehl is set to miss the next six weeks after picking up an ankle injury in training.

Borussia Dortmund have announced that they’ll be without Sebastian Kehl for the next six weeks. The captain picked up an ankle injury in training on Sunday and doctors confirmed that he has damaged ligaments.

With Kehl absent and İlkay Gündoğan still absent, manager Jürgen Klopp will turn to Nuri Şahin and Sven Bender in the center of midfield. Şahin and Bender are obviously more than competent to run the midfield for BVB, and Die Borussen should feel comfortable in the fact that they still have a class midfield with which to operate.

Dortmund’s next three matches are all away from home, starting with Wednesday’s match in the Champions League in Italy against Napoli. If Kehl is out for the full six weeks, he will also miss at least the club’s matches home against Marseille, away to Arsenal and away to Schalke.

Kehl’s absence won’t affect BVB too much in the short term, but if he and Gündoğan continue to miss time in the coming weeks, Dortmund’s depth will be extensively tested.
