Galatasaray vs. Real Madrid: Lineups

Real Madrid have left Gareth Bale on the bench as they take on Galatasaray at the Ali Sami Yen.

Gareth Bale is left on the bench for Real Madrid as they take on Galatasaray in Istanbul.

The move to leave the record signing on the bench is no huge surprise as the Welshman hasn’t played much football due to injury and his transfer saga this pre-season, and Angel Di Maria should be more than a capable replacement.

Which is bad news for Galatasaray, who have bizarrely lined up with two strikers and no wingers, with Wesley Sneijder operating behind Burak Yilmaz and Didier Drogba.

For Real Madrid, Daniel Carvajal also makes a start, while Isco is included as the fourth attacker, with Luka Modric playing in a pivot role.

Galatasaray starting line-up (4-4-2 diamond): Fernando Muslera; Emmanuel Eboue, Aurelian Chedjou, Dany Nouenkeu, Albert Riera; Selçuk Inan, Felipe Melo, Wesley Sneijder, Engin Baytar; Burak Yilmaz, Didier Drogba.

Real Madrid starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Iker Casillas; Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Daniel Carvajal, Alvaro Arbeloa; Sami Khedira, Luka Modric; Angel Di Maria, Isco, Cristiano Ronaldo; Karim Benzema.
