The rumors of Thorsten Fink’s sacking began on Monday night. By Tuesday morning, it was a reality. Fink was relieved of his duties after five matches and three losses. Saturday’s 6-2 drubbing by Borussia Dortmund was the final nail in his coffin.
Hamburg sack Thorsten Fink
It’s been an awful start to the season for Hamburg, so they sacked manager Thorsten Fink.

Board chairman Carl Jarchow and sporting director Oliver Kreuzer made the announcement a press conference.
Jarchow:
“The decision was not an easy one to make. Thorsten took charge two years ago as we were in deep trouble and steered us clear of relegation. After that we worked well together. But because of recent events we reached the conclusion that we cannot carry on with things the way they are at present. We would like to thank Thorsten for his work here and wish him all the best for the future.”
Kreuzer:
“Because of recent results and events we came to the conclusion that the decision was unavoidable. We were no longer confident that Thorsten Fink would be able to turn things around. After intensive discussions we decided to do what was best for the club.”
If we look back at Fink’s record since taking over for the awful Michael Oenning, it hasn’t been that good. In 67 matches, Fink has won 23 while losing 26 and drawing the rest. That’s really unacceptable. He’s lucky that he wasn’t dropped at the end of last season when the club failed to qualify for the Europa League.
For now, reserve coach Rodolfo Cardoso and U19 coach Otto Addo will take over the first team. Kreuzer promises a coach will be named as soon as possible, and they’ll introduce him as soon as they can.
