With Stephane Sessegnon apparently on the way to West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland are in need of a playmaking midfielder -- and it looks as though their man might be Tottenham Hotspur's Gylfi Sigurdsson. Sigurdsson, who impressed with Swansea City during the 2011/12 season before a big move to White Hart Lane last summer, has been a disappointment with Spurs and is looking at reduced playing time after the recent acquisitions of Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen.
Sunderland sniffing after Tottenham Hotspur’s Sigurdsson
According to the Daily Mail, Paolo di Canio has identified Sigurdsson as a prime target, and he fits into this Black Cats squad more neatly than does Sessegnon, who frequently goes completely missing, especially when the rest of the team is struggling. Despite Sigurdsson failing to live up to his Swansea highs with Spurs, he’s been far more consistent than Sessegnon, and that will endear him to his potential new boss. Keep an eye on this one.
