Liverpool loan Fabio Borini to Sunderland

Forgotten Liverpool striker Fabio Borini has joined Sunderland on a season-long loan deal.

A spate of injuries has seen the 22-year-old fall out of contention at Anfield. It was just over a year ago that Borini became Brendan Rodgers' first signing, when he joined from AS Roma for £10.5million.

Now, given the arrival of Victor Moses on loan, along with the early season form of Daniel Sturridge and summer arrival of Iago Aspas, Borini has seen his first team opportunities greatly reduced. The Italian would almost certainly have been pushed further down the pecking order once Luis Suarez returned from suspension, so a loan is beneficial to both parties.

Having passed a medical at the Stadium of Light, Borini will be keen to link up with the rest of Paolo Di Canio's growing Italian contingent and improve on a return of just two goals in a Liverpool shirt.
