The midweek portion of this long week six in La Liga is complete and before things begin again tomorrow with another four days of games, lets look back at what we learned from the first half the match week.
La Liga, Week 6: Lessons from a round of midweek matches
There were no major surprises from the mid-week games, though not for a lack of trying from Elche.
Real Sociedad are struggling badly. Losing 4-1 against Barcelona isn't the most shocking result really but the first half was a clinic, dare I say a demolition job, as Barca did pretty much whatever they wanted against La Real. Yes Jagoba Arrasate put out a bit of a weakened lineup in the match but it wasn't until Barca completely relaxed in the second half that they even looked remotely competitive.
Atletico Madrid weren't overly impressive against Osasuna but they won and didn't have any catastrophic injuries ahead of this weekend derby against Real Madrid. Speaking of Los Blancos, they escaped with a completely undeserved three points thanks to some pitiful officiating in their win over Elche. So far Carlo Ancelotti's version of Madrid haven't gotten over their propensity to play down to opponents and it nearly cost them points, something they can ill afford if they want to stay close to Barcelona.
Sevilla finally won a match, which will take some of the pressure off Unai Emery while Malaga continued to look strong dispatching Almeria. Villarreal made a nice statement with a 2-1 over Espanyol.
