It's early in the season, but Hull City are looking very up to the fight to avoid the drop. They downed West Ham United at home on Saturday to record their third win of the season, moving them to seventh place in the table on 10 points.

Hull weren’t spectacular, but they defended well and made the most of a fortunate early penalty. They’ll be thrilled to take three points from West Ham any way they can.

Robbie Brady drew a penalty for the game's only goal 12 minutes in, and it was a questionable one. He went down fairly easily under a challenge by Joey O'Brien, and referee Kevin Friend pointed to the spot. Hull stepped up and buried it, and from then on, they were in control.
West Ham had a good chance to equalize in the 23rd minute, but Liam Rosenior made a good clearance off the line. There were shouts for handball, but he appeared to stop James Tomkins' header with his shoulder and not any part of his arm. Hull generated a couple of other half-chances before the break, but couldn't extend their lead.
In the second half, Hull did well to hold onto their lead. The only time Allan McGregor was truly tested was in the 53rd minute, when he had to make a tricky save on a hard shot by Modibo Maiga. There was another shout for handball on Rosenoir in the 75th minute, but once again, Friend was having none of it.
