Lionel Messi injury: Barcelona star subbed early against Almeria

Lionel Messi tweaked his hamstring just minutes after putting the Blaugrana in the lead over Almeria, forcing the star striker into an early exit from the match.

Lionel Messi was forced to leave Barcelona's match against Almeria on Saturday in the 28th minute after apparently tweaking his hamstring muscle just a few minutes after putting his team in the lead. It wasn't immediately clear what happened to the Argentinean striker but he was beginning to massage his hamstring as he made his way off the pitch.

Messi had already imposed himself upon the match seven minutes earlier when he played an excellent give and go with Pedro before rocketing a shot off the post and past Almeria’s goalkeeper Esteban to put Barca ahead 1-0.

Midfielder Xavi Hernandez came off the bench in place of Messi as Cesc Fábregas slid forward into the false nine role at the top of the Barcelona attack.
