The “big three” in the Bundesliga this season made their presence felt this weekend with three victories and three shutouts to move six points clear of the fourth place side in the league. Fourth through fourteenth place are separated by --- you guessed it --- four points!

Friday, September 27
Augsburg 2-2 Borussia Mönchengladbach
Arkadiusz Milik scored a goal in the dying minutes to earn a big point for Augsburg against a tough Borussia Mönchengladbach side. Andre Hahn opened the scoring for Augsburg in the 27th minute, but the lead only lasted for five minutes before Gladbach had their equalizer. Max Kruse scored his first goal of the season to make it 1-1. Midway through the second half, Branimir Hrgota gave Gladbach the lead, but Milik’s late equalizer meant the points were shared.
Saturday, September 28
Borussia Dortmund 5-0 Freiburg
Borussia Dortmund just smashed Freiburg on Saturday. Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski each scored a brace while Jakub Blaszczykowski added one late in the second half. Fallou Diagne was sent off at halftime for Freiburg, and BVB took complete advantage and destroyed them in the second half. The scoreline helped BVB maintain first place in the league on goal differential.
Bayern Munich 1-0 Wolfsburg
A 63rd minute goal from Thomas Müller was the difference as Bayern Munich held on to edge Wolfsburg 1-0. Luiz Gustavo nearly struck first against his old team, but Manuel Neuer was on hand to make the save and keep the match scoreless early in the contest. David Alaba nearly scored with free kicks on either side of halftime, but he wasn't able to find the back of the net.
Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 Hannover
Sami Hyypiä‘s side grabbed a big three points to remain just one point behind Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen. The 2-0 victory also extends Hannover’s road woes. Simon Rolfes and Sidney Sam grabbed goals in the first half, and Die Werkself held on throughout the second half for all three points.
Hoffenheim 3-3 Schalke
Schalke went into the half up 3-1, but Jens Keller’s side couldn’t hold on to the advantage throughout the second half and eventually had to hold on to earn a point. Kevin Prince Boateng and Joel Matip gave Schalke a two goal advantage just thirteen minutes into the match, and Anthony Modeste pulled one back for Hoffenheim only minutes later. Marco Höger added another before the break to give Schalke the 3-1 lead. Hoffenheim fought back in the second half and Roberto Firmino made it 3-2 just after the restart. David Abraham made it 3-3 midway through the second half. Hoffenheim came close to scoring a fourth in the second half, but they were unable to grab another.
Hertha Berlin 3-1 Mainz
Sami Allagui banged in two goals against his former team as Hertha Berlin continued their stellar start to the season with a 3-1 victory over Mainz. The visitors actually were ahead early with Nicolai Müller’s sixth minute goal giving them the lead. Hertha roared to life in the second half with Allagui’s brace and Änis Ben-Hatira putting the third and final goal in the net in the 74th minute.
Eintracht Frankfurt 2-2 Hamburg
Marcel Jansen’s 86th minute equalizer for Hamburg secured a draw in Bert van Marwijk’s first match in charge of the club. Johannes Flum’s 31st minute goal was canceled out just before the halftime by Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s equalizer. Marco Russ scored shortly after halftime, but Frankfurt couldn’t make the goal stand with Jansen scoring late to rescue a point.
Sunday, September 22
Werder Bremen 3-3 Nürnberg
Nürnberg found themselves behind after only eight minutes thanks to a Berkay Dabanli own goal, and Eljero Elia doubled their lead in the 34th minute. Hiroshi Kiyotake pulled one back just before the break to give Nürnberg some life going into the break. Josip Drmic made it 2-2 in the 53rd minute. Elia scored his second of the match, and his second in 2013, in the 66th minute to give Werder the lead. The lead only last a few minutes before Adam Hlousek found the back of the net to earn Nürnberg a point on the road.
Eintracht Braunschweig 0-4 Stuttgart
Stuttgart added to Eintracht Braunschweig’s awful start to the season with a 4-0 thrashing. Braunschweig remains winless in the early season and only have 1 point after 7 matches. Vedad Ibisevic grabbed a goal for Stuttgart just before halftime, but the visitors unloaded in the second half. Alexandru Maxim, Ibrahima Traore, and Martin Harnik all found the back of the net in the last 45 minutes to give Stuttgart the easy victory.
