Germany vs. Austria: Final score 3-0, comfortable win for the hosts

Miroslav Klose tied Gerd Müller’s record for goals in a Germany shirt as Die Mannschaft easily dispatched of Austria.

Germany were never made to leave their comfort zone, try anything particularly risky or apply serious pressure to Austria at any point of their convincing win on Friday. The first 30 minutes were pedestrian for both sides, but the match seemed all but over when Miroslav Klose netted the opener. Two more goals came in a 3-0 win for the hosts, who are all but bound for the World Cup.

Klose’s goal, which came in the 33rd minute, tied him for the lead with the legendary Gerd Müller on his country’s all-time scoring list. It’s taken him quite a few more games to get to 68 goals than it took Müller, but that many goals in 129 games certainly isn’t a bad return.

Toni Kroos all but sealed the win for Germany in the 51st minute with a brilliant blast from well outside the penalty area. He picked up a pass from Marco Reus and hit an impressive shot of nearly 30 yards to beat Robert Almer and double his country's lead.

Thomas Müller put the cherry on top at the end, tapping in a cross from Benedikt Höwedes.
