Samir Nasri ruled out for eight weeks with knee injury

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri will be sidelined for around eight weeks with a knee injury.

Manchester City were left fearing a long layoff when Samir Nasri sustained a knee injury in a clash with Newcastle United's Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa on the weekend, though the Frenchman has revealed he'll be sidelined for eight weeks with medial ligament damage. Nasri tweeted:

Eight weeks might sound like a pretty long time, though when compared to the prospect of spending half a year on the sidelines with an ACL injury, Nasri has been fortunate.

Even so, he'll certainly miss key Premier League games against Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, and will also likely be sidelined for the Manchester derby and the first leg of City's Champions League clash with Barcelona.

He’s appeared in every one of City’s Premier League games so far this season, so his absence could well prove a headache for City manager Manuel Pellegrini. However, providing David Silva and Stevan Jovetić can find full fitness, the Citizens have ample cover.
