Former Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has won the FIFA World Coach of the Year award at today's Ballon d'Or Gala, after his brilliant 2012-13 season at the Bavarian outfit. The now-retired 68-year-old helped turn Bayern into the powerhouse of European football, picking up the Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal last season after only taking over back in 2011.

Former Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes won the FIFA Coach of the Year award at the Ballon d’Or Gala on Monday.

Last year’s victory was the second time Heynckes had picked up the Champions League in a coaching career which stretches right back to 1979, with the German having last won it with Real Madrid back in 1997-98. However, that wasn’t quite as impressive as his extraordinary triple at the Allianz Arena last season, which completed his revival of a team which hadn’t won the trophy for a decade.
He managed to dislodge Barcelona from their seemingly-infallible position as the dominant force in European football, and is certainly a worthy winner. Talk about going out on a high, eh Jupp?
