Neymar injury: Barcelona forward hurts ankle in Copa del Rey

The Brazilian striker left Barcelona’s match against Getafe after appearing to twist the ankle and knee on his right leg midway through the first half.

Barcelona's big summer signing Neymar was forced out of Thursday's Copa del Rey match in the 28th minute after injuring his ankle in a non-contact situation midway through the first half.

It appeared that his ankle gave out as he planted to make a turn towards goal and caused his knee to buckle as well. Neymar went down immediately and was in obvious pain as teammates surrounded him. After several minutes on the ground behind the touchline being looked at by physios, Neymar attempted to get back up but immediately had to go back to the ground, unable to put weight on the leg.

He was walked off the pitch with the help of two physios with his shoe and sock removed, only putting minor weight on the ankle.

Replays showed the ankle rolled underneath his body weight and there will be definite concern about the possibility of ligament damage. Alexis Sánchez took Neymar's place in the match.
