Manchester United offer £35m for Juan Mata

According to the BBC, Manchester United have made a bid for Chelsea’s Spanish playmaker.

Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Chelsea's Spanish international playmaker Juan Mata, tabling a bid of £35m, according to the BBC. The outlet also reports that Mata did not attend Chelsea training on Wednesday. Matt Law of the Telegraph is also reporting that Mata has informed those close to him that a move is imminent.

Earlier in the week, Manchester United denied making an official bid for Mata. Generally, clubs only issue denials of transfer rumors when there’s some truth to them.

Mata was a key fixture in the Chelsea team last season, leading the Premier League in assists, but his playing time has diminished significantly this season. New boss Jose Mourinho has preferred the defensive work of Oscar in the center of his attacking midfield band and true wide players over Mata on the right flank.
