Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien looks set to move to AC Milan, with the club announcing on their website that he is "expected in the city this evening." Though they say nothing about a transfer, it's safe to assume the rossoneri aren't just reporting Essien's vacation plans.
Michael Essien likely to complete AC Milan move
Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is on the brink of a completing a move to AC Milan.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio the Ghanaian will arrive at the San Siro for no fee, despite having had a contract at Stamford Bridge through to 2015. His deal with the rossoneri is initially expected to be a year-and-a-half long.

The move would come as no surprise, with the 31-year-old veteran having only made five Premier League appearances -- including just two starts -- under José Mourinho at Stamford Bridge so far this season. He has gradually fallen out of favour at Chelsea, and spent last season on loan at Real Madrid.
Essien would be the first arrival of Clarence Seedorf’s tenure at AC Milan, and he could well go straight into the rossoneri first-team. However, he’s not much of an upgrade -- if at all -- on their current defensive midfielder Nigel de Jong, so it’s possible he’s arriving just as cover rather than for the starting 11.
