Inter Milan's horrible run of form continued on Sunday afternoon, as they were held to a goalless draw at home to bottom club Catania. Despite predictably dominating possession and creating a hatful of reasonable goalscoring chances throughout, the nerazzurri only hit the target thrice in a dismal attacking performance.

Catania unsurprisingly looked to defend, defend and defend some more, barely capable of retaining any possession themselves. An Inter goal felt inevitable throughout the first half, with Palacio sending a diving header just wide before Rolando glanced a corner past the far post inside the opening 20 minutes
However, an opener wasn't forthcoming. Inter must've been left wondering quite what they needed to do to score when Diego Milito tested elefanti keeper Alberto Frison for the first time, with the Italian diving low to tip the powerful shot around the post.
The pace of the game dropped as the first half wore on, and at the break the scores were still level after an extremely unspectacular 45.
That almost changed immediately after the restart, when a defensive lapse from Inter gave Catania their first half-chance. Gonzalo Bergessio took advantage and lashed the ball towards goal, though his effort just skimmed the post.
Unfortunately for the elefanti, their early chance was the exception rather than the rule, and it didn't take long for Inter to resume their first half siege. But once again stubbornness and poor finishing conspired to keep the nerazzurri out, as coach Walter Mazzarri grew ever more exasperated on the touchline.
It is a perverse achievement that Inter managed to see so much of the ball and yet do so little with it, with Frison once again rarely tested in the second half. Fittingly the final whistle blew with the game goalless; Inter taking a point which sees them just a point above Hellas Verona, Torino and Parma in the final European spot, while Catania stay rooted to the foot of the table.
