AC Milan have completed the signing of Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, with the 31-year-old veteran expected to have signed a one-and-a-half year contract at the Milanese club. He leaves Stamford Bridge with legendary status after almost a decade of service, having won two Premier Leagues, four FA Cups, a League Cup and a Champions League.

AC Milan announced the completion of Essien’s signing on their Twitter page, complete with a rare smiling photo of director Adriano Galliani:

There were initially rumours flying that the Essien had failed his medical at the rossoneri, though they were quickly quashed on Twitter by the Essien himself. That doesn’t hide the fact that there are serious questions to be asked of his knees, after his recent struggles with injury.

However, if Essien gets back at full fitness he could still prove to be a valuable asset for Clarence Seedorf's side -- though he's going to have to battle with fellow midfield enforcer Nigel De Jong for a spot in the first team.
