Stoke City sign Peter Odemwingie as Kenwyne Jones heads for Cardiff City

Stoke City have confirmed the signing of Cardiff City striker Peter Odemwingie, with Kenwyne Jones heading in the other direction.

Stoke City have announced the signing of winger Peter Odemwingie from Cardiff City in a player-exchange deal which sees striker Kenwyne Jones heading in the other direction.

Odemwingie arrives at the Brittania after only a few months in Cardiff, where he never really established himself as a first-team regular. He made just 11 starts in the opening 22 games after arriving from West Bromwich Albion in acrimonious circumstances last summer, with his temperament the least desirable of his attributes.

However, he scored a very respectable 30 Premier League goals in his three seasons at The Hawthorns, and if he can find his best form again, he could prove to be a good asset for Mark Hughes' side.

Stoke probably won’t be too disappointed to lose 29-year-old centre-forward Jones, who has managed to forge a reasonable Premier League career despite very rarely actually ever scoring any goals. Since arriving at Stoke back in 2010 he’s scored only 13 league goals, and has made a combined total of only 24 starts over the last three seasons. Cardiff are in need of a consistent goalscorer, and they’ve definitely not got one here.

Still, at least he’ll fit in just right with what is perhaps the Welshest of names in the entire division.
