Eusebio Di Francesco sacked by Sassuolo

Serie A strugglers Sassuolo have announced the sacking of their coach Eusebio Di Francesco.

Sassuolo have announced the sacking of their coach Eusebio Di Francesco, with the club currently sitting in the relegation zone after 21 games. They announced in a statement:

U.S. Sassuolo Calcio annouces the sacking of first team coach Eusebio Di Francesco. U.S. Sassuolo Calcio would like to thank Mr. Di Francesco for the significant work done in the last 19 months and for the success that are an indelible part of neroverde history. Today training will be directed by Paolo Mandelli pending the appointment of a new coach.

The sacking comes as no surprise, with the Emilian club having struggled in Serie A despite significant arrivals both in the summer and so far in January. Their defeat to fellow strugglers Livorno on the weekend was the final straw, with Sassuolo losing a game they really should have won.

However, Di Francesco did excellent work at the neroverde, winning a historic promotion to the top flight with the minnows last season. He certainly shouldn’t have to wait too long to find himself another job.

It’s rare that replacing the coach in this situation ever pays off, so Sassuolo may well live to regret their decision.
