Arsenal deny Draxler interest, confident in bringing in other targets

Mike Hewitt

Something about the idea of Arsenal being willing to pay Schalke 04's outrageous asking price on Julian Draxler's always been a little bit fishy, and Arsene Wenger has finally blown up the rumour once and for all during this morning's press conference:

With Schalke also expressing reluctance to ship their young star off to the Gunners during January yesterday, it looks like this deal is completely dead at this point. Which, from a financial perspective, is probably a good thing -- Arsenal need to focus elsewhere, especially with their midfield wracked by injury. And it sounds as though Wenger is doing just that -- in the same press conference the manager claimed it was ‘80-20’ that a deal would get done today.
