Manchester City abandon deadline day transfer plans by shelving two deals

Manchester City have resigned themselves to defeat in their attempts to acquire Eliaquim Mangala and Fernando in this window, although will continue to keep them in mind for the summer, according to reports.

Mangala and Fernando deals are both off, could be resurrected in summer. City expect no deals to be done before deadline.

That could, of course, still leave the door open for other clubs. Manchester United have been linked with both and may also be competing for the pair in summer. Fernando's contract will expire in the summer, however, and he could talk to foreign clubs about a transfer from any time.

City's performances this season have hardly left them looking desperate for signings, but with Arsenal also looking to have an austere window, it looks like it's advantage Chelsea following the January window, who swooped to acquire three targets.
