Robert Lewandowski signs pre-contract with Bayern Munich

The striker is doing exactly what everyone thought he would and Bayern Munich are getting even better.

Mike Hewitt

In the least surprising news ever, Robert Lewandowski has signed a pre-contract with Bayern Munich that will see him join the reigning Bundesliga and European champions in the summer. With Lewandowski's contract expiring after the season, Borussia Dortmund cannot stop the striker from moving to the Allianz, and they won't see a penny from the move.

Lewandowski made it clear a year ago that he wanted to join Bayern, but Dortmund refused to sell. After agreeing to sell Mario Gotze to Bayern, it would have been tough for BVB to justify selling Lewandowski as well; thus, despite pressure from the player and his agent to let the striker leave, Dortmund held on. However, doing so invited Lewandowski to leave on a free transfer, which left Dortmund without the €30 million or more that the striker could have fetched.

With Lewandowski set to join Bayern in the summer, Pep Guardiola will have to deal with rumors of Mario Mandzukic's departure, although those assumptions are rather premature. Mandzukic, Thomas Müller and Claudio Pizarro are the only recognized forwards at Bayern. The aging Pizarro isn't a realistic option while Muller is preferred in the midfield. When Mandzukic hasn't played this season, Bayern have opted for Mario Götze up top at times, something that won't be necessary next season. If anything, Bayern could have used a forward and now they have one in Lewandowski, who can come in without forcing Mandzukic out just fine.

So Lewandowski is going to Bayern, as expected. Bayern are getting even better, as expected. Bayern will take over the world, as expected. Ho hum
