For most footballers, missing a couple of months through injury is pretty bad news. For the unluckiest footballer in the world Giuseppe Rossi, it's reason to breathe a big sigh of relief. The Italian international has already suffered two ACL tears, and Fiorentina were left fearing the worst after he left the field against Livorno yesterday with another knee injury.

Fiorentina have confirmed that Giuseppe Rossi hasn’t torn his ACL a third time, though is still likely to face a couple of months on the sidelines.

However, in a statement on their website today they’ve confirmed that Rossi has escaped without a tear. Instead, the striker has picked up a second degree medial collateral ligament strain, and he shouldn’t be out for too long.
Fiorentina have declined to give an official prognosis until Rossi meets with his trusted surgeon Richard Steadman, though Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has suggested that he’ll be sidelined for six to seven weeks, which is about par for the course for this kind of injury.
That means Fiorentina won't be without their top scorer for too long, and, even more significantly, Rossi should be back with more than enough time to get himself fit for the World Cup in June.
