Ranieri will have an almost full squad at his disposal. Stressing physical fitness earlier this week, he selected players based on their club performances and has managed to gather 24 players, a majority of which have so far had consistent playing time this season. New additions to the team include Giannis Skondras and Nikos Karelis while Kostas Giannoulis, Charis Mavrias, and Kostas Stafylidis all make their returns after prolonged absences. The fitness issues that have gotten players included have also seen some familiar faces get excluded. Avraam and Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Jose Holebas, Giorgos Tzavellas, and Ioannis Fetfatzidis have all struggled for make appearances. Once touted talisman, Sotiris Ninis has been without a club after being released from PAOK last season.
Giorgios Karagounis, who was recently named in a technical role, joked with journalists at the airport and said he will be willing to change from business suit into a playing kit if needed.
Key Player: Kostas Mitroglou
Mitroglou made a summer move back to his former club Olympiacos after a disastrous season with Fulham in England. His return to Greece has marked a return to consistency as he is effectively a first choice player with the Piraeus based club. Mitroglou is likely to start and will be battling to outpace Finnish defenders. Incase he doesn't start, his club mate Dimitris Diamantakos has shown some encouraging performances.
Key Matchup: Finland’s midfield vs Petros Mantalos
Petros Mantalos is one of the newer faces in the squad, having been included by Ranieri. He has become part of a new midfield core of players with Giannis Maniatis and Panagiotis Tachtsidis replacing the old Karagounis-Katsouranis partnership. Matalos will likely be the creative drive for the team and will fight for open space to supply Mitroglou.
