This own goal is hilarious or heartbreaking, depending on your perspective

Ian Walton

So this is a really funny own goal, one of seven scored by Ireland against Gibraltar on Saturday, but it’s pretty sad at the same time.

Gibraltar have recently been admitted to FIFA, which is really cool. What’s less cool is that they’re the worst team in UEFA by some distance. They’re even worse than San Marino, who have no competitive wins and two competitive draws in their entire history. The goalkeeper who scored this own goal, Jordan Perez, is not a professional footballer. He was also substituted shortly after this happened.

I want to give everyone on Gibraltar a hug.
