Real Madrid's ultra-thin midfield is about to get a serious boost with the return of Sami Khedira. The German international has been out since August with a thigh muscle injury and had a knee operation while out as well, but he's returned to full training, according to ESPN.
Sami Khedira close to Real Madrid return

The timing couldn't be better for Real Madrid, who face Barcelona in the first Clasico of the season on October 25. While Khedira won't be fit in time for this weekend's match against Levante, he will have been back in training for 10 days by the time the Barca match rolls around. That might be enough time for him to get ready to suit up for that massive fixture.
In Khedira's absence, Madrid have tried some less than ideal options at defensive midfield. Toni Kroos, previously a No. 10 for Bayern Munich and Germany, has been converted into the role. While he's performed surprisingly well, he's not much of a ball-winner. Asier Illaramendi has also gotten a run in that position, with very mixed results.
Khedira isn’t a true holding player either, but he’s much better defensively than any other midfielder at Madrid, so he’ll be a very welcome addition to Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
