Arsenal have to start Emiliano Martínez in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, and he might get more opportunities through the holidays as well. The Gunners' No. 2 goalkeeper David Ospina is out for three months with a thigh injury.

Emiliano Martínez looks likely to get more time.

Ospina’s injury comes right after Wojciech Szczesny’s suspension in Europe for a straight red card against Galatasaray, pushing Martinez into action. Szczesny can still play in domestic games and will be back between the sticks in Champions League soon, but in the short term, the relatively untested Argentine has some big shoes to fill.
Unfortunately for Arsenal, Ospina’s injury will last through an exceptionally busy period, congested with lots of Premier League games and the resumption of the FA Cup. Arsenal probably would have liked to rotate Ospina in for a handful of those games.
Internationally, the timing of this injury isn’t bad for Ospina. Colombia do not have to qualify for Copa America, and are just playing friendlies until the summer.
