3 things we learned from Dortmund’s easy 4-0 win over Galatasaray

BVB may be struggling in the Bundesliga, but they remained perfect in group stage play with a convincing win over their Turkish opposition.

Borussia Dortmund kept their perfect record in Champions League play in tact with an impressive 3-0 win over Galatasaray in Turkey. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found the back of the net twice for BVB who stayed top of Group D with nine points, three points clear of Arsenal in second.

Dortmund superb Champions League form was on display again early, as BVB took just six minutes to grab a 1-0 lead on Galatasaray. Marco Reus made the pass, delivering a cross toward the far post that found Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang making a perfectly timed run. PEA got a clean touch and put the ball past Fernando Muslera.

PEA scored his second goal of the match in the 18th minute, this time with another close range tap-in after he was left completely unmarked at the far post. This time the delivery came from Lukasz Piszczek whose cross from the right found the striker.

Aubameyang just missed a hat trick inside the 30-minute mark as he once again got free at the far post, but this time his sliding toe poke was a bit off target, hitting off the post.

Reus put Dortmund ahead 3-0 just before the halftime break with a fantastic strike from 25-plus-yards out. Reds picked up the ball 30-yards from goal, took a couple touches and unleashed a downward curling strike that moved its way through traffic and past Muslera.

Late substitution Adrian Ramos added a fourth goal in the 84th minute, less than two minutes after coming on the pitch. He beat Muslera with a rising shot into the top right corner, receiving an assist from the recently returned Ilkay Gündogan who’d been sidelined for the better part of the last year with back problems.

Galatasaray: Fernando Muslera, Çamdal, Chedjou, Kaya, Telles (Oztekin 62’), Melo, Altintop (Dzemaili 61’), Invan, Sneijder, Pandev (Colak 78’), B. Yilmaz

Goals: None

Dortmund: Weidenfeller, Piszczek, Hummels (Gündogan 69’), Subotić, Sokratis, Bender (Ginter 55’), Kehl, Mkhitaryan, Kagawa (Ramos 82’), Reus, Aubameyang

Goals: Aubameyang (6’, 18’), Reus (41’), Ramos (84’)

3 things

1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is great, he should play more - If you only watch Dortmund in UCL play, you'd probably think they're battling with Bayern for first place in the Bundesliga. The truth is very different as BVB are all the way down in 14th with just two wins against five losses and a draw. Why? Injuries are a big part of it, but for some reason, Klopp won't consistently play PEA as the team's lone striker in the 4-2-3-1. Nothing against Ciro Immobile or Adrian Ramos, but when PEA plays, he scores!

2. Galatasaray should really be better - There’s enough talent on the Turkish side to be a solid performing team in Europe, at least in the attack. Defensively they looked terrible against BVB getting ripped apart the German’s speed and precision. No matter who coaches Gala -- be in Roberto Mancini or Cesare Prandelli -- just can’t seem to get this team on track anywhere but in league play.

3. Jürgen Klopp looks uncomfortable in a suit - We’re talking about a dress suit, not his more typical track suit. He doesn’t always dress up for his time on the touchline, but more often than not in the Champions League, he’s looking like someone who only puts on a suit when it’s absolutely required. Don’t believe me? Here’s proof.
