Andres Iniesta substituted in El Clásico with injury

El Clásico just keeps getting worse for Barcelona.

David Ramos

It's been a tough edition of El Clásico for Andres Iniesta, and it ended on a sour note in the 68th minute. With Barcelona trailing Real Madrid, 3-1, Iniesta picked up an injury and was forced to leave the match. He was replaced by Sergi Roberto.

Iniesta picked up the injury in a 50-50 tackle with Madrid midfielder Luka Modric. It appeared that Modric got to the ball first, which convinced the referee not to call a foul, but he made plenty of contact with Iniesta. The Barcelona midfielder got up and tried to play on, but quickly realized that he wasn’t fit to continue and went to ground. Trainers came on to treat him and it was quickly determined that a substitution had to be made.

Barcelona will likely provide an update on the specifics of Iniesta’s injury after the game. The trainers were looking at his right leg, and while he was limping, he was able to leave the pitch under his own power.
