River Plate vs. Boca Juniors live stream: How to watch the Super Clasico online
Can Boca Juniors spring a big upset and knock River Plate off their perch in the Argentine Primera?

It’s been a roller coaster ride in the Argentine Primera for River Plate since they gained promotion back to the top flight, but there’s been nothing not to love about their performances so far this season. They’ve been by far the best team in the country, opening up a plus-16 goal differential through nine games, 11 better than any other team in the league. They’re also the country’s only undefeated team, and they’ll like their chances to continue that record against bitter rivals Boca Juniors in the Super Clasico.
Boca are going through some growing pains in a post-Juan Roman Riquelme world. They’ve been built around the legendary playmaker since 2008 and don’t seem to know how to play without him. Rather than thrusting one of their youngsters into Riquelme’s role, they’ve been playing without a true No. 10, and they’ve struggled for it. Cesar Marcelo Meli, a 22-year-old attacking midfielder, has been blended into the team recently with some success, but Boca have a lot of work to do to make up the gap between them and River.
While their fans probably won’t want to see a defensive game, Boca’s going to have to flood the midfield and make sure they keep numbers back to keep River off the scoreboard in this one. The front three of Teofilo Gutierrez, Rodrigo Mora and Leonardo Pischulichi have 16 goals between them.
While Boca’s 13th place standing entering the day doesn’t look great, they could surge to within sight of their rivals with a win on Sunday. Their goal differential of minus-2 isn’t bad for how far down the table they are, and they could find themselves just five points back of River with a victory. Also, three of their four losses came early in the season, and they’ve only lost one of their last five.
River Plate injuries and suspensions
Out: Matias Kranevitter (foot), Fernando Cavenaghi (foot)
Boca Juniors injuries and suspensions
Out: Juan Forlin (calf), Guillermo Burdisso (knee), Daniel Diaz (knee). In doubt: Fernando Gago (fitness), Andres Chavez (fitness).
In previous seasons, Cavenaghi would have been a huge miss for River, but they’re doing just fine without him. Teofilo Gutierrez is the division’s top scorer and two other River Plate players have four goals apiece. Teo will like his chances to score against Boca without Diaz, Forlin and Burdisso, three of their better defenders. Gago is struggling for fitness, but it’s tough to see him missing this match.
Unfortunately, the game is not available on television in the United States, but it is available streaming legally on two different platforms.
