Trinidad and Tobago showed up in the United States for the CONCACAF Women's Championship, which also serves as qualifying for the 2015 Women's World Cup. And they showed up with all of $500.
Trinidad and Tobago women’s coach pleads for donations to help feed team
They’re supposed to be focusing on qualifying for the World Cup, but they’re just trying to eat lunch.
The federation sent the players to the tournament with almost no money and no equipment, leaving manager Randy Waldrum to take to Twitter, hoping to get the balls and food necessary to get the team through the next few days and, later on in the tournament:
I need HELP! T&T sent a team here last night with $500 total. No equipment such as balls,no transportation from airport to hotel, nothing.
— Randy Waldrum (@CoachWaldrum) October 8, 2014 I don't know how I'm going to feed these players starting at lunch today! If you know of anyone in Dallas area that will help with food, etc
— Randy Waldrum (@CoachWaldrum) October 8, 2014 Please let me know asap! And I'm suppose to qualify this team for a World Cup! I have to help these players somehow..they deserve better
— Randy Waldrum (@CoachWaldrum) October 8, 2014 Waldrum is one of the most respected women’s coaches in the world, winning two national championships with Notre Dame before taking over the expansion Houston Dash of NWSL this season. When he agreed to lead Trinidad and Tobago too, he surely didn’t expect to be left in this situation. Then again, it’s hard to imagine the players expecting to receive this type of treatment either.
If you are in the Dallas area and can help, please do. Hopefully the team can get enough of its needs taken care of off the field so they can eat and get a fair shot at trying to make their World Cup dream come true.
UPDATE: Waldrum has set up a place for people to donate and help the Trinidad and Tobago team.
Everyone who wants to donate to the T&T cause, thank you so much! You can donate by clicking on http://t.co/yVYkmqLsvY #Footballfamily
