What you see above is a photo of Hans Erik Ødegaard, the father of Martin Ødegaard, giving permission to game developer Sports Interactive to put his son into their game.
Ødegaard is perhaps the most famous teenaged footballer in the world. The Norwegian wonderkid is just 15, but he’s been hailed as the Norwegian Messi already and has already earned a cap for the senior national team. He’s also not in Football Manager 15, the wildly popular world soccer simulation game that features youth players with fairly accurate ratings based on scouting reports from all around the globe.
Sounds like a pretty big oversight, right? Well, laws in some countries prevent the likeness of people under a certain age being used to make a profit without the permission of legal guardians. Because Ødegaard is 15, he can’t be included in the game for that reason. Until, hopefully, the next patch of the game is released.
Update: Football Manager director Miles Jacobson says Ødegaard will be included in an update of the game.
