After Inter fired head coach Walter Mazzarri earlier on Friday, it was a poorly-kept secret that Roberto Mancini would be the one taking charge. Now, they’ve made it official.

It’s been over ten years since Mancini first took the reins at Inter. The Italian was in the dugout for four seasons, undeniably the best of his managerial career. Under Mancini the nerazzurri collected the scudetto in three seasons straight and the Coppa Italia twice, but were unable to progress past the quarterfinals of the Champions League. After being eliminated in the Round of 16 for the second year in a row, Mancini had to go. Inter passed on to José Mourinho.
Mancini then moved on to Manchester City where, with the benefit of loads of money but without the boost of calciopoli keeping many talented sides down, he managed one league title in three seasons. City was unable to get out of the group stages of the Champions League.
On to Galatasaray, then, where Mancini stayed for just one season. His side finished second in the league, but managed to lift the Turkish Cup and make it out of the group stages.
Now he's got a mighty big task ahead of him. His first game in charge will be against Milan, just one point clear of Inter in the table. His nerazzurri currently sit 9th, having won just four games, two of which came against Sassuolo and Cesena. Inter lost to bottom-side Parma two weeks ago, were pummeled by Cagliari, and failed to beat Palermo. This is a struggling side, but it remains to be seen if Mancini is the one that can put the pieces together.
