Inter Milan and Walter Mazzarri have parted ways, with the club confirming that the head coach has been “relieved of his duties.”

Internazionale, currently 9th in Serie A, have decided to part ways with their head coach less than ten days before the Milan derby.

The Italian took Napoli to the heady heights of second place two seasons back, was meant to revive Inter. The nerazzurri have failed to make an impression in the years since José Mourinho packed up and left. Mazzarri, appointed last season to replace Andrea Stramaccioni, should have had Inter once again in the Champions League places.
At least, that’s how club officials saw it. They accepted last season’s 5th place finish with a grimace, reasoning that it might take a bit of time to bring Inter back to glory. But eleven games into the current season and the side is sitting 9th, having won just four games. They lost to bottom-side Parma two weeks ago, while last weekend Hellas Verona came from behind to secure a point.
With the Milan derby coming up, Inter have a chance to save face. They’re just a point behind their city rivals, and a win could put them back in the European positions. No announcement yet on who will be in the dugout next weekend, but it’s almost certain to be Roberto Mancini.
