A referees’ committee official was hospitalized following a violent attack in Athens on Friday morning. As a result, matches in all professional leagues in Greece have been suspended indefinitely.
Football in Greece suspended
Professional football throughout the country is postponed after a violent attack on a referees’ committee official.

Christoforos Zografos was beaten by two men with wooden clubs, requiring hospitalization to treat his injuries. After an emergency meeting of the Hellenic Football Association, the decision was made not to send referees to upcoming matches until “immediate steps” were taken to protect officials. As a result, all matches in all professional divisions will be postponed to protect those involved.
It may be an international break, but the Greece Super League was meant to continue as planned, with Round Ten matches scheduled for November 15. It is unknown as yet when the matches will be played. Olympiakos president Evangelos Marinakis made it clear that such threatening behavior, which he said was rife in the lower leagues, needed to be stopped:
All of this is highly unacceptable and it will not be long before we find it in front of us in a few months in the Super League - that’s why we have an obligation to denounce it and end it here.
