River Plate will finish above Boca Juniors in the Argentine Primera apertura this season, but Boca can still get the better of their fiercest rivals this season. The two sides were drawn together in the semifinal of the Copa Sudamericana, and they’ll play the first leg at La Bombonera on Thursday (6:45 p.m. ET, FOX Deportes).

In their league meeting, River were heavily favored, but the Super Clasico was played under ridiculous conditions. Heavy rainfall rendered the Bombonera pitch unplayable, but the referee made them play the match anyway, and the 1-1 draw was more the result of random chance than any skill on the part of the players.
River had a difficult decision to make in regards to their starting XI given their league situation. They play second-placed Racing Club on the weekend in a title-deciding match, but they’ve opted not to rest their top players. Boca, meanwhile, can start a reserve team in their next league match if they want to.
