Jack Wilshere substituted with injury against Manchester United

This didn’t look good. Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has had terrible luck with injuries in his career, and it appears he's picked up another one that will keep him out of action for a good deal of time. The Gunners midfielder went down in the 50th minute of their match against Manchester United, clutching his lower leg, and immediately called for a trainer.

Wilshere's left ankle turned badly after a hard challenge from Manchester United defender Patrick McNair. Arsenal fans can take a bit of encouragement from the fact that this isn't the ankle he's had chronic problems with, but it still looked bad. Wilshere initially attempted to play on, but had to be subbed in the 55th minute, with Santi Cazorla replacing him.

The timing for Wilshere's injury is pretty terrible. Arsenal have to play Borussia Dortmund in Champions League midweek and are just a couple of weeks away from an important match against Southampton, who entered this week in second place.
