Chelsea’s match against Schalke 04 on Tuesday carries an interesting subplot in the form of Roberto di Matteo. The former Chelsea boss who led the club to their only Champions League triumph is now in charge of the German club, and for the first time he’ll face his old club.

The Blues face their former manager Roberto di Matteo with a chance to secure first place in Group G.
Di Matteo will no doubt get a warm welcome from any Chelsea fans in attendance, but the pleasantries will end there as the Blues look for three points that would secure the top spot in Group G. As it stands Chelsea are three point clear of Schalke will two matches to play, so the Germans need points not only to keep pressure on the Blues, but to stay ahead of Sporting Lisbon in the fight for second.
Schalke’s hopes won’t be helped by injuries as several players including Julian Draxler and Jefferson Farfán will be unavailable. According to reports the Germans will also have four players facing fitness tests ahead of the match. Things are much rosier for Jose Mourinho and Chelsea who who healthy and ready to go. Striker Diego Costa is fully fit for the first time this camp again and looked like his usual lethal self over the weekend.
