Barcelona many be through to the next round of the Champions League but their work in the group stages is not done. Barca sit a point behind Group F leaders Paris Saint-Germain, which makes Tuesday’s clash against APEOL very important.
Barcelona vs. APOEL, 2014 UEFA Champions League: Time, TV schedule and game preview
Barca need three points to prevent PSG from topping Group F.
The Blaugrana looked something like their old selves over the weekend during a 5-1 demolition of Sevilla. Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick and finally became the all-time leading scorer in La Liga after a fairly significant goal drought by his standards. With that weight off his shoulders, the Argentine striker might be able to loosen up a bit and that is nothing but potential bad news for APOEL.
Despite sitting in last place in the group with just a single point, APOEL remain in the hunt for a Europa League spot. Ajax sits just a single point clear of the Greeks, so any points against Barca, while unlikely, would be a huge boost. Worst case, some help from PSG could setup a massive final day match between the Greek and Dutch clubs for third place.
Barca will be without midfielder Andres Iniesta who continues to struggle with a calf injury. Defender Thomas Vermaelen remains sidelined having yet to play since going the club over the summer. APOEL will be without their captain Constantinos Charalambides thanks to an ankle injury.
