Arsenal have announced that midfielder Jack Wilshere has undergone "successful" surgery on his left ankle. According to the club, the England international will miss "approximately three months" in recovery. Wilshere damaged his ankle ligaments against Manchester United last Saturday and, though he tried to play on, he was substituted after 55 minutes.
Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere ruled out for three months
The midfielder has had successful surgery on his ankle.

The projected three month absence will, if accurate, see Wilshere miss away games against Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as the first knockout stage of the Champions League, should Arsenal progress, though he would be back in time for any quarter-final. He will also miss the beginning of Arsenal's defence of their FA Cup, which begins in January.
Wilshere's absence only serves to deepen Arsenal's injury woes. Back-up striker Yaya Sanogo and central midfielder Mikel Arteta both limped from the field against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday night, though no confirmation has come from the club as to the nature and severity of their injuries. Mesut Ozil and Mathieu Debuchy are the clubs other long-term absentees, though Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud should soon be back in regular first-team action.
