Borussia Dortmund vs. Galatasaray, 2014 UEFA Champions League: Time, TV schedule and game preview

Borussia Dortmund and Galatasaray will be looking to distract from domestic struggles in their Champions League clash on Tuesday.

Lars Baron

Borussia Dortmund have made a terrible start to the Bundesliga season, and remarkably sit in the relegation zone after 10 games of the season. However, so far they’ve managed to use the Champions League as an escape, and have recorded three wins from their opening three matches. The last time they did that, they went on to win the competition.

They’ll be looking to make it four from four at home to Galatasaray on Tuesday, with the Turkish side currently enduring struggles both home and abroad. Cesare Prandelli’s side are winless in the Champions League so far this season, and were embarrassed by minnows İstanbul Başakşehir 4-0 in the Süper Lig a couple of matches ago. If they pick up anything against Dortmund, they’ll have done well.

Key player - Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund)

Borussia Dortmund's versatile forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been their star man in the Champions League so far this season, having scored three goals in as many games. With pace and skill, he's likely to cause Galatasaray's defence some serious problems in this match.

Key matchup - Fernando Muslera vs. Dortmund’s shots

With Borussia Dortmund likely to generally control this match, Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera will likely face a barrage of shots. Unfortunately for the Turkish outfit, the Uruguayan shot-stopper is very inconsistent, and is liable to making big errors. He’ll have to keep them out of his game if Galatasaray want to stand any chance of picking up a point or three.

Borussia Dortmund injuries and suspensions

Out: Nuri Şahin (knee), Mats Hummels (ankle). In doubt: Oliver Kirch, Jakub Błaszczykowski (thigh), Marcel Schmelzer (hand).

Galatasaray injuries and suspensions

Out: None. In doubt: Felipe Melo (thigh), Aydın Yılmaz (foot).

Borussia Dortmund will still be without important first-teamers Nuri Şahin and Mats Hummels, while Oliver Kirch, Jakub Błaszczykowski and Marcel Schmelzer face late fitness tests. As for Galatasaray, they have no definite absentees, but veteran midfielder Felipe Melo and youngster Aydın Yılmaz are both in doubt.
