Manchester City’s Aleksandar Kolarov ruled out for a month

Manchester City will be without the services of their Serbian defender for the near future.

Manchester City's Aleksandar Kolarov will be out for a month, after manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed that the Serbian leftback had sustained an "important muscle injury in his calf". Kolarov had been named in City's starting eleven to face Manchester United, but incurred the injury in the pre-game warm-up and was replaced by Gaël Clichy.

Clichy will presumably keep his place for Wednesday evening’s visit of CSKA Moscow, in which City require victory: with just two points from three fixtures, any slip up here will take qualification for the next phase of the Champions League out of their hands. Assuming that Pellegrini’s estimate of a month is accurate, then Kolarov will miss the home game against Bayern Munich but could be back on contention for City’s final group game away at AS Roma.

In better news for City fans, central defender Eliaquim Mangala, who was not named in the squad for Sunday's 1-0 victory over United, is not injured and should make the squad despite suffering from some "stiffness" in his thigh.
