The Premier League weekend kicks off with the round’s hottest matchup: Chelsea’s visit to Anfield. Last season, of course, Liverpool were gunning for the title, but the Blues left them flat on their faces, without any real hope of reaching the title.
Steven Gerrard is back in Liverpool’s lineup against Chelsea
After being rested against Real Madrid, seven starters return for the Reds, while Diego Costa is back in the starting lineup for the visitors.
This season, it’s Chelsea that are taking the league by storm. They’ve dropped points just twice, each in a draw with a Manchester side. They’re the heirs apparent, while Liverpool are languishing in seventh, twelve points off the pace.
Against Real Madrid midweek, Brendan Rodgers rested quite a few of his regular starters. But against Chelsea, many have returned, including captain Steven Gerrard. Will he make amends for last season’s slip?
Chelsea were only able to take a point against the minnows of Maribor in their own Champions League fixture, but they’ll be hoping to do much better this afternoon. Filipe Luis and Didier Drogba drop to the bench, while Ramires and, of course, Diego Costa start.
