Marco Reus’s new boots make sure the kids are alright

Big brands personalizing boot designs for big individual players is nothing new.

adidas does it (often) for Lionel Messi and Nike makes a point of doing it for Lionel Messi. Puma have previously shied away from doing this for their players but have recently stepped up their efforts with Tricks releases for Arsenal (with both the evoSPEED and evoPOWER boots) and Mario Balotelli (evoPOWER). The latest addition to the series for Puma is a special release for Borussia Dortmund star man, Marco Reus.

The attacker is currently on the sidelines with an injury suffered at Paderborn back in November. He is due to be back in action sometime in January and he’ll have a flashy new pair of boots to wear that should go nicely with Dortmund’s kits, both home and away.

The new boots feature asymmetrical designs on each foot that are mirrored from one boot to the other. The inside of the boot is a vibrant yellow color and features a typographic design in black of an adult’s hand holding a child’s. The design itself mimics the look of tattoos, much like the ones that Reus carries on his body, but is made up of inspirational words like “hope” and “dream,” among others, in both English and German.

The outside of the boot features a stark black look with subtle pattern covering the entire half. From far away, the pattern looks like a series of small dots but upon closer inspection, it is clear that they are the silhouettes of children. The shapes represent the 6000 children that are patients at the Dortmund Hospital every year.

The evoSPEED MR boots are available in very limited release with just 400 pairs available. They’re sure to move quickly with proceeds from the boots going straight to charity.
