Most on-field footballing injuries are fairly predictable things. A hamstring tweak here, a groin pull there. Occasionally, a footballer tumbles over an advertising board or runs into the post, which breaks up the monotony. But mostly it’s all as you’d expect.
Peruvian footballer survives lightning strike
A miraculous escape ...

Not in Peru. Here, Sport Aguila left back Joao Contreras gets hit by lightning. And survives.
Though local news initially reported that he had been killed instantly, later reports thankfully confirmed he, along with another player and an official, was stable and recovering in the hospital. What he’d done to anger the gods is unclear, but we wish him all the best in his recovery. And suggest that maybe he sacrifices a little something before his next game.
