Aaron Ramsey out with hamstring injury, no date set for return

Bad news for Arsenal fans. Aaron Ramsey, who scored twice in the midweek victory over Galatasaray, will not play this weekend thanks to a hamstring injury. While Arsene Wenger refused to set a date for his likely return, initial reports suggest that the Welsh midfielder could be out for at least four weeks, which would rule him out of the busy Christmas schedule.

If accurate, then Ramsey, who had shown signs of getting back to his best form, will miss some important games. Along with Newcastle on Saturday, Arsenal face Liverpool and high-flying West Ham later in December, then visit Southampton on New Year's Day. They also play Hull City in the third round of the FA Cup in early January; it was, of course, Ramsey who scored the winning goal in last May's final against the same opponents, securing Arsenal's first trophy since the fall of Rome.

Arsenal are also facing something of a crisis on defense. Calum Chambers is suspended following his red card against Stoke, and Wenger today confirmed that both Nacho Monreal and Laurent Koscielny are injured. This leaves Arsenal needing to contrive a back four out of Per Mertesacker, Hector Bellerin, Kieran Gibbs and Mathieu Debuchy. The Frenchman, only just returned from injury himself, could well face his former club as an emergency center back.
